What Is the Purpose of HRC?

Just showers and laundry for people experiencing homelessness? It’s so much more.

At its heart, the Homeless Resource Center exists because people matter. Every person deserves dignity, safety, and a place to reset when life has unraveled. That human truth is what draws many people to care in the first place.

But compassion alone isn’t enough. HRC is also about systems: how a community functions when people fall through the cracks. When someone has access to a shower, clean clothes, a phone, mail, and consistent daytime support, it reduces crisis calls, eases pressure on public spaces, and helps the entire city work better.

This isn’t an either/or. We believe the strongest solutions speak to both the heart and the mind. Some people come to this work because they feel deeply. Others come because they want practical, effective solutions. Most of us are somewhere in between. HRC is intentionally built for all of that.

By holding dignity and structure together, we create solutions that are humane enough to be supported and functional enough to last.

If this resonates with you, here’s how you can be part of the solution: volunteer, give, and share this so more people in our community understand what this work really is.

That’s the purpose of HRC. And that’s how community-wide solutions happen. Thank you for being part of our community!
