We see the need around us in Lawrence every day. Trash on the sidewalks, bus stops that need attention, a downtown that belongs to all of us. At HRC, we don’t just want to talk about being part of the solution. We want to live it.
That’s why every Monday, Thursday, and Friday, we partner with Lawrence Transit to put people to work. Not volunteers from outside looking in, but people who are currently using our services, cleaning up the same community that has sometimes looked past them. Ten hours a week spent on downtown bus stops and sidewalks, done by people who know what it means to be seen and given a chance.
This is what dignity looks like in action. It’s a paycheck. It’s purpose. It’s proof that the people we serve aren’t just recipients of help. They’re capable of giving right back to the city they call home.
If you’ve ever wondered what “dare to hope” looks like on a Tuesday morning, this is it.
